API CF is a diesel engine oil performance classification established by the American Petroleum Institute (API) for lubricants intended for older-generation diesel engines. Compared to the earlier API CD category, API CF provides improved protection against soot formation, piston deposits, oxidation, and acid buildup, making it suitable for indirect-injection diesel engines and selected direct-injection engines operating under moderate to severe service conditions.
